A LITTLE GOOD NEWS!

Annabelle

Finally a little relief! Yesterday, the remaining "A" puppies and "B" puppies, as well as Anabelle (pictured above) started their journey North to our rescue partners in New England! We are so thankful for their help as we are completely overwhelmed with adult dogs and puppies right now!

Of course, as soon as the pups were on transport - we received a call from a woman with a Momma hound and ANOTHER litter of puppies that need help...where does it end?

We still have multiple litters of pups that are in need of indoor foster or forever homes - as well as some wonderful adult dogs who deserve their chance at a new beginning.

The "W" puppies, the "D" puppies, and Penelope with her two babies are all still living outside.

Although Lady Lilly is lucky enough to be in a foster home - she also looking for her forever home. She is such a doll - please consider opening your home and heart to help her.

PLEASE HELP PENELOPE & HER PUPS

Momma dog - Penelope

We recently answered yet another call for help - despite being overloaded with puppies and flat broke. Something needs to give - as we are too small a rescue to continue to intake at this pace. We are starting to panic. It is hard to say "no" though to helping a momma dog and her pups - especially when their lives are in imminent danger.

We rescued this momma dog (Penelope) and her two puppies (Petunia and Pugsly - you can guess which is which!) from the median on the interstate. What a great mother Penelope is! She has cared for her pups under the most dire of circumstances, ignoring her own health and well being. Please help us to reward her effort.

We took the whole family to the vet last week which revealed that these pups have had it really rough for a long time.

Penelope's back leg is been broken and it has started to heal on its own due to the amount of time that has passed since the break. The vet said to give her a couple a months and then we will see if she needs surgery to fix it. Penelope also tested positive for heartworm and anaplasmosis (tick borne disease treated with antibiotics). Her her eyes are swollen and runny to due to her skin condition that she has had for a while.

The puppies - Pugsly and Petunia have a secondary infection from their skin condition, which they have also had for quite a while, so they are on antibiotics to treat the infection. Additionally - all three are being treated for their skin condition.

So with all that being said is there anyone out there who is willing to give this sweet and deserving family and indoor foster home or donate to their care?

Penelope and pups are currently living outside due to lack of indoor fosters.

Their initial vet bill was $400 and we still have a long way to go to bring them back to health (Heartworm treatment for the momma - $300 - $350, vaccines, spays/neuters and possible leg surgery for Penelope.)

We do not receive any public funding or municipal support. We rely 100% on private donations from our dog-loving friends. Without your support - we will not be able to continue to help these dogs that live outside of Marion City limits - which will leave these dogs with no options at all.

Please chip in to help this wonderful family start a new life!! Even $5.00 helps!

If you are unable to help financially - please consider fostering.

Fostering is free and saves lives!

GREAT UPDATES ON BROTHERS - STARSKY & HUTCH

Starsky (now Sawyer)

It is great fun for us to receive updates on our pups from their adoptive homes - especially as the years pass.

Starsky & Hutch came through our rescue in February 2008. They both headed off to one of our rescue partners in Maine a few months later and found wonderful adoptive homes.

We just received the following updates from both adoptive families.

Starsky now Sawyer is doing amazing! He is such a great dog! He is full of love and silliness. He's been such an awesome addition to our family and I couldn't imagine life without him. I checked out the picture of Hutch and I can't believe how identical he and Sawyer look. Where does Hutch live? It would,be fun to get them together sometime! :)

"UNCLE!" - MEET SAM...

We are crying "Uncle" over here in the land of the dogs... Here is our newest PAWS dog...SAM!

Sam was hanging around one of our volunteer's work place. When everyone was leaving work the other day - he kept trying to get into everyone's cars. He almost got hit by a car on a very busy street in Memphis. So of course our volunteer couldn't leave him out there on his own. He jumped right into the car and that's his story.

This sweet German Shepherd only weighs 50 lbs (at least 20 lbs underweight.) It is hard to determine how old he is - as his front teeth are very worn down possibly from chewing in boredom while left outside in a yard - but his back teeth are bright white. We are guessing he is somewhere between 3-5 but it is hard to tell in his current condition.

Of course, Sam has also tested positive for Heartworm and will need to be treated. We cannot neuter him or treat him for Heartworm until he puts on some weight - so we have a few weeks to raise the funds for his treatment. His treatment will cost approximately $350 - please consider donating to help him: http://www.pawsofmarion.org/donate.html

The good news is that Sam is safe and adjusting to indoor living wonderfully! He does well with the other dogs in his foster except the mini dachshund- he acts a little too interested in her (not aggressive.) We don't know if he thinks she is some other type of animal and not a dog. He will scratch at the door when he has to go out, he loves to go for walks and walks pretty well on a leash. He rides great in the car and he enjoys being outside. He does great in his crate,

With a little TLC, vet care and good food - this boy is going to make a wonderful companion. Please help us to help him find his new beginning.

Last week we posted that two of the "A" puppies had been adopted together - Amy & Aaron.

We just received these cutie pictures of Amy (now "Sister") and Aaron (now "Brother") loving life in their new home! We hope you enjoy these pictures as much as we do!

We still have 6 of the "A" puppies waiting for foster or forever homes... Please spread the word. They are awfully cute!

EGADS! MORE PUPPIES....

Delilah

We are now up to our FOURTH litter of puppies - and starting to feel a bit of panic...This is not the way we hoped to start off the new year!

These are the "D" puppies originating from Crawfordsville. There are 8 pups in this litter and they are all adorable! They are all living outside - all in need of vet funds as well as indoor foster or forever homes!

The "D" puppies are around 4 months old. They are a little shy but did fine the longer we were there.

Their mom is a lab mix and the dads are probably the two males in the backyard, one is a black lab mix and the other is some type of shepherd mix. Mom weighs around 65lbs so these pups are going to be a nice size when full grown.

LADY LILLY - ANOTHER NEWBY

Lady Lilly is looking for love!

Meet Lilly - another new arrival to PAWS. This sweet girl was found wandering by one of our foster parents - who of course - took her home to an already full house of doggies.

We think Lilly is a Foxhound. Foxhound mix. She is about 1 year old - or maybe a little younger and weighs 45+/- lbs.

Lilly is a sweet girl who is living peacefully with many other dogs. She is a bit shy at first but warms up quickly. She would greatly appreciate a foster or forever home where she could receive more one-on-one attention!

NEW ARRIVALS - THE "W" PUPS!

Wally - one of the "W" pups

Our New Year's wish was that there would be fewer dogs this year in need of our help - but so far that wish is not showing any sign of coming true...

We were lucky to find homes for three of the "Holiday pups" before the new year - unfortunately - three more pups quickly took their places in our rescue (not to mention that we still have 14 of the Holiday pups - all living outside due to lack of foster homes.)

Without further ado (or whining), here are our newest arrivals - The "W" puppies!

Meet Wally, Wendy, and Wendell. They are 8-10 weeks old and cute as can be!

They were found on the side of the highway by a good Samaritan but he could not keep them - so he gave us a call for help. All three pups are very outgoing and love to be held and loved on!

Sadly they are all living outside right now as well. We really could use some foster homes for these cuties....

CHECK OUT THE "E" PUPS NOW!

Eric, Eli and Emily all grown up!

One of the great things for us about the holidays is that we receive updates and pictures of our rescued dogs from their adoptive families.

The above picture is of three of the "E" puppies - rescued by PAWS last July. When rescued - these pups were tiny, skinny and covered in fleas. That is certainly not the case today!

Three out of four "E" puppies were adopted into the same family (they wanted one puppy and left with three!) We just received the above picture of Eric (now "Moose"), Eli (now "Hooch") and Emily (now "Sadie") and cannot get over how big they have grown!

Their loving family sent in this note along with the picture:
The wee ones have grown a lot. Moose and Hooch are over 70lbs each. They keep us busy, but they are a pack of fun. The picture of their brother showed the family resemblance. Happy New Year and thank you for the wild bunch. Debby

Thank YOU for giving THREE of our lucky pups a loving home!

HAPPY NEW YEAR FOR BRITTANY & OTHER UPDATES!

Brittany with her new family!

It has been quite a whirlwind holiday season for us at PAWS due to the inflow of puppies. These puppies are all still living outside - anxiously awaiting foster and forever homes.

To start the new year off on a positive note - we are thrilled to report that one of the "B" puppies, Brittany, has been adopted by a wonderful family! You can see Brittany with the Hacker family above getting some love!

Amy

Aaron

Other good news -- "A" puppies, Amy & Aaron were adopted together!

So, we are making a little progress - but have a long way to go to get all of these puppies safe. If you would like to help these sweeties by fostering, adopting or donating - please visit our website: www.pawsofmarion.org.

Thank you for caring about our pups! Wishing for fewer homeless animals in 2012~
