HELP! IT IS RAINING PUPPIES AT PAWS!

Toby - one of the "T" Puppies!

The good news - we had the good fortune to send 4 of our pups to New England last weekend!

The bad news - as soon as the four were on transport, we received three calls from area residents requesting help for THREE litters of puppies. So it is raining puppies over here and we urgently need some help!

As the Marion Animal Shelter only takes dogs from directly within the city limits - there are no options of help for Marion residents or companion animals that live outside of the city. This leads to many many calls for help coming our way.

As a small, foster-based rescue - the number of dogs needing our help greatly out numbers space capacity - but we try our hardest to help as many pups as possible. We could not do what we do without the help of this dog-loving community!

At any rate - enough rambling! Here are the latest pups in need available through PAWS for adoption or rescue. They are all ADORABLE and deserving of great homes!

All of these pups have received first shots and will be getting a second round in a few weeks. They have also received initial de-worming.

Meet the "E" Puppies!

The "E" puppies are around 8 weeks old and mom is a Black Lab mix. According to the folks that called us - Dad could be a Shepherd mix, a Doberman, or a Black Lab mix - good grief! We are having the momma dog spayed once she is ready to eliminate a repeat performance.

Meet the "S" Puppies!

The "S" puppies are approximately 7 weeks old and they way 5+/- lbs. Mom was a stray that wandered up to a man's shop and he fed her and then surprise she had puppies! We have also taken the momma dog into rescue. She is a black and tan mix and looks like her puppy, Scotty. The momma dog was very scared when we met her - but we will post pictures of her once she relaxes a bit. We have many breed guesses on these puppies - from Pug mixes, to Shar pei, to Hound, to Rottweiler. Your guess is welcome too:)

Meet the "T" Puppies!

The "T" puppies are around 8 weeks old, born near Christmas time. They are around 15-20lbs right now, so will be on the bigger side when they are adults. We think that they are lab/chow/shepherd mix. Whatever breed-mix they are - they are so adorable! Please help us to find rescue or adoptive homes for each one!

UPDATE ON THE "P" FAMILY!

The "P" Family - Pugsly, Penelope, Petunia

Last month - we rescued this momma dog (Penelope) and her two puppies (Petunia and Pugsly) from the median on the interstate. The whole family was in rough shape - but as you can see from these pictures - are looking much better and growing fast!

We are still trying to put some weight on Momma Penelope. She is such a devoted mother that she lets the puppies eat first so we are having to feed her separately. The whole family is so sweet and loving - we are hoping that we will be able to find great homes or rescue for all three.

Unfortunately - Penelope is still not really using her back leg (looks like it was broken a long time ago and healed improperly due to no vet care), so she might have to have surgery.

All three dogs are very sweet love to give kisses and be loved on. Petunia is a little more laid back than Pugsly, Pugsly is on the go all of the time.

We would LOVE to find indoor foster homes for this family as they are currently living outside due to lack of foster space. Penelope is in particular need as she is Heartworm positive and will need to undergo treatment - as well possible leg surgery. Please help this devoted momma dog and reward her efforts to keep her pups together and safe.

FOUR NEW BEGINNINGS!

Delilah

A little good news!

Three of the "D" pups - Delilah, Dexter and Danny headed North to one of our rescue partners this past Friday! Joining them on their trip was Chewy - who will also be going to rescue.

We are so grateful to our rescue partners as they help us save so many lives and find wonderful homes for pups that have been discarded or never even known what having a family is all about.

We look forward to receiving "happy tails" updates to share with you all!

Thank you so much for supporting our rescue efforts!

THE "W" PUPS GET THEIR CHANCE!

Wally waiting for transport

Last Friday - the "W" puppies finally got their chance at a new beginning! They headed North on transport to one of our rescue partners in New England. These pups had no interest here - but now they will have a great chance finding the lives that they deserve!

Wendy

Saturday we heard from our rescue partner that the pups had arrived safely and that their foster parents were thrilled with their outgoing and loving personalities! Below are a few pictures of them sent in by their new foster homes! These pups seem to have adjusted to home living in an instant!

Thank you to all that helped these adorable black pups find their way to a new life! Without your support - pups like these would have a much smaller chance of finding families to love them.

ADORABLE BOY STILL NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Isn't there anyone out there willing to foster me?

Look at this adorable face!

Sweet Max is still in need of an indoor foster home. His caretakers can only house him until the end of the month. We really want to help Max find his new beginning and forever family - but cannot do it without you!

Max is a friendly, sweet boy - possibly Lab/Border Collie mix. He is approximately 1.5 years old and weighs 40 lbs. He gets along well with other dogs and humans!

Max needs an indoor FOSTER HOME before the end of the month that will take care of him through his heartworm treatment. If we do not find a foster home for him - Max could land at a shelter where his chances of adoption will be very slim. Max also needs donations to help pay for his treatment (approximately $300 - $350.)

We will not give up on Max. He is a very sweet boy who deserves his chance at a loving family!

Please share Max's story with friends and family!

AWESOME UPDATE ON "B" PUP - BOBBY!

"B" pup - Bobby in his new home!

We just received these gorgeous pictures of "B" pup - Bobby - from his adoptive family. Bobby, now "Titus" had the good fortune of being adopted by the same family who adopted Evan (now Mortimer).

As you can see from these pictures - Titus is learning about all things dog from his canine sister, Sienna and brother, Mortimer!

Thank you so much David and Kimberly for opening up your home to not one, but two of our rescued pups! Let us know when you are ready for another:)

UPDATE ON SAM THE SHEPHERD!

Sam is really coming out of his shell!

Sam has been in our rescue for about a month now. When he arrived - he was terrified and extremely underweight. Under the care of PAWS volunteers, Lisa & Leanne - Sam has begun to blossom into a happy and healthy boy!

Sam is wonderful with the other dogs in his foster home and would probably appreciate having another dog friend or two in his forever home.

Take a look at Sam's intake photographs: http://pawsofmarion.blogspot.com/2012/01/uncle-meet-sam.html. Isn't the change in his demeanor amazing?

Sam has gained 10 lbs and is now neutered - but he still has a ways to go before he is ready for his forever home. Sam is heartworm positive and we will need to raise funds for his treatment soon. He still is underweight and should gain at least 10 more pounds to be at a healthy weight.

Because of his initial fear and uncertainty - Sam will be meeting with a trainer tomorrow to help us, help him to continue to develop into a confident, well-adjusted pup.

I am such a happy boy!

What are you looking at?

I am so handsome!

Thank you for saving me!

Sam is going to make a wonderful companion for a Shepherd-loving family! Please share is story!

THANK YOU ALL & HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

A HUGE "thank you" to everyone who came out in the cold on Sunday to support our rescue efforts! Our "Buy a Heart - Save a Heart" fundraiser was a big success.

We raised almost $500 which will be used to spay & neuter the adorable "D" puppies! We are also thrilled to report, because of your help, that four of the "D" pups will be heading to one of our rescue partners in New England next week!

Kudos goes to: Reefie, Cissy, Gloria , Kathy and Colleen for helping us pull this fundraiser off!

A special "thank you" goes out to Jill for taking care of Madison while we were holding the event.

A very HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY to all of our supporters. Without you - we would not be able to save the number of dogs that we do. We wish you and your four-legged family members lots of love and treats on this day!

PLEASE HELP MAX!

Max needs a foster home & heartworm treatment!

Last week was a busy week around here:) On top of the call regarding Lexi and her 9 pups - we received the following plea for help:

My boyfriend and I rescued a dog, Max: a malnourished, abandoned lab mix that was left chained to a tree. We took him to the vet and were told the horrible news that he has heart worms. We are college students, with one dog already, and we cannot afford his treatment. We've been looking around some shelters to give Max up to, yet all of them said they were full. Just recently we went to a shelter who told us that the best thing to do for Max is to euthanize him. We really don't want that for Max; he deserves to live. We were just wondering if there was any way you could help
?

It is hard to believe that a shelter would recommend euthanizing this adorable, young dog! We are guessing the recommendation was a result of Max being a young, adult, heartworm positive dog - with little chance of being adopted from a municipal shelter.

Obviously - from the number of Heartworm positive dogs PAWS rescues, treats and places successfully - we know (that with your help and support) Max will not only receive the treatment he needs but will also find his way to a loving new home.

We are so glad that Max's rescuers reached out to us. It would be tragic if this boy lost his life just because someone dumped him and did not keep him on heartworm prevention.

Max is a friendly, sweet boy - possibly Lab/Border Collie mix. He is approximately 1.5 years old and weighs 40 lbs. He gets along well with other dogs and humans.
