PUPPY OVERLOAD!

As usual, never a dull moment in the land of the doggies! PAWS has taken in THREE litters of puppies in the last few days.

One adorable litter is shown below - only a few days old and arriving without their mother, these poor puppies are starting life one the wrong side of the survival curve. Currently in foster care, the six "R" puppies (Ruth, Rebecca, Rachel, Ruby, Ryan and Rusty) are being bottle fed every 3-4 hours, thanks to their wonderful foster mom:) Bottle feeding is not only labor intensive - but very expensive (the milk is about $11 a can. The puppies will take about 4oz every feeding)!

A VISIT FROM MORE WISCONSIN ANGELS...

A little rain never hurt anyone... not when you have lives to save!!! We got a visit from 4 doggy angels from Wisconsin today (Beth, Linda, Judy, and Laura). These 4 women drove nearly 12 hours yesterday and arrived at 1:00 in the morning. With little sleep, they met our PAWS volunteers at the Marion Animal Shelter. Coming to save 19 dogs and puppies, somehow they managed to fit 5 more in!!! It took almost 2 hours to configure the vehicles to fit all the crates (and a few short downpours), but finally around 11 am all were safely in the cars and on their way! You can see precious Avery in the driver seat (he looked at all of us like "come on already, I'm ready to drive!").

The lucky ones included Lil Lady, Jasmine, Avery, Candy (who was returned after being adopted last fall), Natalie, a litter of 12 precious puppies, a Rat Terrier, 2 Beagle puppies, a Pug, a Corgi mix, and a couple of mix-breed pups! We are incredibly blessed to have such wonderful people care about our pups from so far away. They even brought more blankets, towels, dog food, dog supplies, and toys!

A special thanks to Beth, who has been a continuous support for us and has introduced us to the wonderful Rescue Group that took these sweeties. We are also grateful to Emily from the Rescue for reaching out to help us and of course Linda, Judy, and Laura for driving all this way. They are blessed to have foster homes willing to take these pups in when they arrive (as everyone in Rescue knows, that is absolutely critical, so thank you fosters!). THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH- WE APPRECIATE YOU SO MUCH!

GREAT NEWS FOR BO!

Sweet Bo has been through an awful lot. He spent months at the shelter waiting for a forever home, with no interest. Then, when the shelter was full, he was moved into boarding at the vet clinic, where he spent more months living in a tiny cage. We kept telling people that he is the nicest dog and would make a great family pet, but being a big, goofball of a hound, we just could not raise any interest.

Two weeks ago, a wonderful family stepped up to foster Bo with an eye towards adoption. He has the luxury of a big fenced in yard and a stay-at-home mom.

Here is the latest update from Bo's mom:

He still just has that curious puppy nature about him and that's understandable. Its funny, we kept hearing how active he is, yet he really sleeps a lot. All of us go out in the backyard to run around and he might play for a short while but then he just wants to curl up next to me and let me pet him. (Which I don't mind at all). :)

We took him out on his leash to my sons baseball practice and he did wonderfully with the kids petting him, really loved being out and getting to sniff around.

Still plan on looking into the classes at petco.

I think we are going to keep him!....He's been doing well in the house and other than chewing on a few toys left out he is doing well.

DESPERATELY NEED FOOD DONATIONS

We hate to beg again, but our foster homes are in dire need of food donations (Pedigree, etc.) and/or monetary donations to help pay for food. Most of our foster homes have several dogs of their own and cannot afford to buy food for our dogs as well. Please... we cannot save lives without the help of foster homes. Won't you consider making it easier for them to help our sweet pups? It would be great if a community group (e.g., School group, Church group, etc.) could help raise funds for us (with just a few volunteers, it is very difficult for us to raise funds in the community when we are so busy physically caring for the pups). OXFORD & LADYBIRD ARE SUPERSTARS!

Recently, our good friend Bobbie, with Silverwalk Hounds Dog Sanctuary was featured on the news for her wonderful work with abandoned and special needs hounds. Bobbie has helped us with many of our unwanted hounds and currently cares for three of our dogs at her facility (Oxford, Ladybird and Scout).

MORE SAD NEWS...BILLY

More very sad news to report. Our sweet Billy passed away from complications during heartworm treatment. Billy was almost finished with heartworm treatment when he suffered an embolism (a rare complication, but it can happen). We want to thank Terri and her daughter, Victoria, for loving him and providing him a home with much love when no one else would. Billy enjoyed the company of many other rescued pups during his stay with Terri and Victoria. Thank you both so much and we are so sorry for your loss.

FORGOTTON PUPS IN NEED OF FOSTER HOMES

PAWS of Marion has many wonderful dogs in rescue that are anxiously awaiting foster homes.

Many of these dogs are heartworm positive and have the funds to be treated, but have to be in a foster environment before they can undergo treatment. These dogs have been waiting months and months for loving foster families -if we can just find safe homes for them to go to be treated, they can move onto adoptive families and rescue groups -- Please help!

They are stuck in limbo right now - and need kind hearted souls to help them to move forward in their journey to happiness.
